ColorBlast solar panels for De Volharding national monument

Project of the week | Scoop Artis: first national monument with solar panels

In the ‘Project of the week’ section, Solar Magazine pays attention to a special solar energy project every week. This week the oldest zoo in the Netherlands has a real scoop.

ARTIS has provided the national monument De Volharding with solar panels. The zoo has recently worked hard on the restoration of the former rice warehouse from 1857, which is one of the 26 national monuments in ARTIS.

Zinc Color

ARTIS has, among other things, commissioned color and building history research to return the face of the building to the design of architect Ouëndag, which dates from 1922. The solar panels are in line with this original design, because they have been given a zinc color by the Dutch manufacturer Kameleon Solar.

‘ARTIS has provided a national monument in the heart of Amsterdam for the first time with an aesthetically pleasing, colored PV solution that has been approved by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands’, says Kevin Verpaalen, CEO of Kameleon Solar. ‘This important project opens the doors for all zinc roofs in the Netherlands with a protected appearance.’
