Dutch solar panels with art at Milan Design Week
At the Milan Design Week, the Dutch manufacturer Kameleon Solar, in collaboration with artist Dominic Brown, presented a series of solar panels that have been transformed into works of art.
The solar panels were presented in the Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, which served as the backdrop for the collections of more than 100 Dutch designers and companies. The Salone del Mobile Milano – Milan Design Week – is Europe’s largest event for the furniture and design sector.
Façade designs
Especially for the exhibition, Kameleon Solar joined forces with artist Dominic Brown, who transformed functional solar panels into unique works of art. Brown is a well-known Dutch artist who uses mixed media in his work. He is best known for his murals, such as the large painting he made at the entrance to The Hague Central Station. He also makes free work that can be seen at home and abroad.
Brown commissioned Kameleon Solar especially for this occasion to translate the evolution of solar panels into beautiful works of art. By showing and experiencing that even high-quality art comes into its own on fully functioning solar panels, Dominic and Kameleon Solar hope to inspire and encourage architects, project developers and building owners to include such solar panels in their facade designs.
6 ways
During the event, Kameleon Solar showed how solar panels can be colored in at least 6 different ways. Clients and designers themselves have influence on the colors and efficiency of the solar panels.
The color and/or print as well as the shape and size can be adjusted per solar panel to the design of the facade. Kameleon Solar’s special design software also ensures that the light transmission is equal across the entire solar panel.
