Kameleon Solar acquires industry peer Solar Visuals

Roosendaal, July 22, 2024 – Kameleon Solar, a developer and manufacturer of custom-colored and printed building-integrated solar panels, has acquired its industry peer Solar Visuals. Solar Visuals incorporates colorful prints into solar panels using a unique printing technique and a patented grid pattern. The new combination will focus on high-contrast, multicolored designs for solar panels, such as high-resolution photos. Solar Visuals will continue to operate as a sister company of Kameleon Solar. Kevin Verpaalen, CEO of Kameleon Solar, stated: “As a market leader, we can now offer architects and building owners even more possibilities to integrate aesthetically pleasing colored solar panels into building designs.”

Seamless Integration of Solar Panels into Facades

Solar Visuals started in 2018 as a spin-off from TNO, UNStudio, and Visual Impact, driven by the shared ambition to seamlessly integrate solar panels into facades. Ben van Berkel, founder of UNStudio, remarked: “We achieved that goal, but as we transition from a start-up to a scale-up, different expertise is needed. With the acquisition by Kameleon Solar, our knowledge is preserved and further expanded.” Eddy Zwier, manager of Tech Transfer at TNO, added: “There is significant potential in the high-end construction world; there is a growing demand for energy-generating facades, especially in high-rise buildings. Kameleon Solar addresses this with an even more comprehensive solution package through this acquisition.”

More Applications

By combining and further developing the techniques and software of Kameleon Solar and Solar Visuals, the number of application possibilities increases, allowing for better accommodation of the design wishes and requirements of architects, project developers, and building owners. Thijs Sepers, director of Visual Impact, commented: “Kameleon Solar has enormous flexibility in production capabilities, enabling them to adapt more easily with an architect and deliver true custom work. As a co-developer and producer, I am pleased that the quality of our impactful, energy-generating solar panels is guaranteed with this acquisition.”

Accelerating the Energy Transition

Kameleon Solar aims to make solar panels beautiful, adding value and integrating them into the facade designs of buildings. This way, they are not only used because they are necessary or profitable but also because they genuinely enhance the appearance. This approach encourages the adoption of solar panels, making the energy transition greener and more attractive. Together with sister company Solar Visuals, they hope to accelerate this process.
